KINETIC-ATHLETE announced at ASCA Conference
Kinetic Athlete was successfully launched at the 2008 ASCA Conference held
on the Gold Coast.
The latest product from Kinetic Performance (based in Canberra) is a web
based athlete performance management application.
The application has been in development for the last 18 months. Evan Lawton,
Company Director said “Kinetic
Athlete is a powerful management tool
that I am confident will give coaches, athletes and staff the solution they
have been looking for in managing and tracking their athletes performance.”
SRM launch Wireless PowerControl VI & PowerMeter
With the new Power Control VI, the entire SRM System is wireless
Key benefits:
Wireless data transmission from the SRM PowerMeter with the ANT+Sport protocol, and wireless heart rate and speed sensors using the ANT protocol, guarantee the highest reliability and accuracy in data transmission. No more time-consuming, fiddly sensor wiring!
Additional significant improvements of the PC VI compared with earlier generations:
• Integrated altitude measurement and storage.
• Significantly increased storage capacity of 1054 hours at a storage interval of 1 second (Previously : 6.2 hours with PC V).
• Integrated USB interface - it is now possible to charge the battery directly by attaching it to the computer.
• Clear and legible, high-contrast display to improve functionality during training.
• Simplified menu navigation.
A new version of the SRM WIN Software has been developed to meet the needs of the new PC VI. The PC VI can be easily programmed and training data can be easy downloaded and analysed via the latest software. Altitude and temperature profiles can also be displayed and analysed.
Iit should be noted that the PC VI is NOT backwards compatible with PC V components or wired PowerMeters.
Simultaneously with the launch of the new PowerControl VI, all PowerMeters are now available in wireless versions.
The wireless technology is now also available for the SRM Professional PowerMeter as well as for FSA, Specialized and Dura-Ace compatible SRM PowerMeter.
All wireless PowerMeters can be used with the SRM sensor cable and the PowerControl V.
SRM set to release Wireless Powermeter mid 2008
SRM Germany are working hard to put the finishing touches on their much anticipated wireless SRM System. In fact all professional PowerMeter's starting in the second quarter of 2008 will work both wirelessly using the ANT+ Sport technology as well as with the current sending coil/sensor cable wired technology. Solar will also be an option.
These new PowerMeter's will work with the Garmin Edge 705 when it is available. Launch of the SRM Wireless PowerControl is scheduled for summer of 2008.
Since the new wireless technology (ANT+SPORT) is completely different than the current technology this requires completely different circuit boards in both the PowerMeter's and the PowerControl's. Upgrades from the current PowerMeter's and current PowerControl V will not be possible.
The new wireless PowerControl and PowerMeter's will be backwards compatible. The wireless PowerMeter will also have a sending coil, so the signal can be picked up by a PowerControl V using a sensor cable. The new wireless PowerControl will have a plug in the back for a sensor cable so it can pick up the speed and power/cadence signals from a sensor cable and an existing PowerMeter and wheel magnet.
St Kilda win 2008 NAB Cup
Early season results for St Kilda FC are indeed positive. The Saints claimed the 2008 NAB Cup title with a well-deserved win over Adelaide on the 8th March, 2008. You can read the full match report here
Its good news for the team at Kinetic, who have been working hard during the off-season to expand the athlete monitoring capabilities of
GymAware.
St Kilda, along with a number of other clubs are using GymAware this season to assist in their week-to-week preparation leading up to game day. Kinetic look forward to providing continued assistance and support throughout 2008 and beyond.

Congratulations Geelong FC 2007 AFL Premiers
Dean Robinson at Geelong FC has achieved great results with GymAware this year. His rigorous approach to athlete monitoring and willingness to act on the performance feedback meant that his players were in the best shape possible for the final. We would like to thank Dean for his belief in GymAware and for his continued feedback and input into the future direction for GymAware.
Kinetic Performance holds quality of service as a key value. Recent experiences with these companies have shown us just how poor quality and service can be. It is particularly disappointing that these are two Australian companies receiving such poor reviews.
From Their Website --
The Novatech 1632 Oxygen Transmitter
- Easy-to-operate, reliable, no regular calibration needed. An annual check of four reference voltages is all that is necessary
- Local 2 x 16 character display and two transmitted 4-20 mA isolated outputs
- Accurate, rapid response, low drift Zirconia Oxygen sensors
Modbus TM
The 1632 Oxygen Transmitter is now shipping with ModbusTM protocol as a standard feature. Connect up to 31 Oxygen Transmitters on the ModbusTM RS485 network and all transmitters can then be interrogated and configured remotely using a computer or PLC.
Our experience was very different
We used three of these with 6 zirconia probes on an altitude project. They were purchased from the Australian Distributor Opal Environmental who also manufacture a range of Opacity and Dust monitoring systems (transmissometers) We discussed the application with Ian Crowe in detail prior to selecting these units for the project.
As you can see in the detailed report (
html) (
pdf) sent to him and our client the systems were plagued with failure after failure and ended up not meeting the specification for Drift, repeatability and could not support the Modbus protocol. When asked for a refund under their performance guarantee a "restocking fee" of 20% was subtracted from the amount. A letter was also sent by him to our client making unsubstantiated claims regarding our lack of expertise in this area.
Fortunately we were able to redesign the system and replace the faulty Novatech analysers with Servomex cells without causing too much disruption to our client. Since removing the 1632 analysers the system has run continuously without fault for many months.
I encourage anyone considering purchasing form either
Opal Environmental or
Novatech Controls to read the report above before doing business with them as we had a very bad experience in dealing with them, in fact the worst experience to date.
